As a psychometrist, I administered psychological tests to patients. Through administering these tests, I learned ways to motivate patients to perform their best and work efficiently through the testing process. Additionally, I took behavioral notes while testing about the patients’ affect, speech patterns, motor skills, etc. The patient contact that I have gained through my experience as a psychometrist has prepared me work with patients as a physician.

Last year, I volunteered as a sport psychology consultant to the FSU swimming team. Through this experience, I used applied sport psychology techniques, such as goal setting, positive self talk, and mental imagery to enhance the performance of FSU swimmers. The performance enhancement techniques I used with FSU swimmers may be useful in my work as a physician, since I could use these techniques to help my patients lose weight, prepare them for surgery, etc.
