In her first year at the University of New Orleans, Crystal won the "Outstanding Freshman" award in the Music Department; soon after she was awarded a scholarship for the University's "Three Musical Cities" program, which allowed her to study music in Vienna, Prague, and Salzburg. In 2005, Crystal was awarded UNO's "Outstanding Senior" award in the Classical Music Division of UNO. Under the careful instruction of Jessica Molin and Denise Ozden, Crystal's voice has been further developed into a fine instrument, and combined with her solid background in Theory and Musicianship she is in the process of becoming a formidable musician.

In addition to being a world-class swimmer in all 9 strokes, Crystal Philippi is also an accomplished opera singer. All over the world, Crystal brings to the stage the soul and charm of her home town, New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. She has appeared on the operatic main stage in numerous prestigious roles, including: Carmen in Carmen, Charlotte in Werther, Mallika in Lakme, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Zita in Gianni Schicchi, and Mere Jeanne in Dialogues des Carmelites. Crystal’s European Tour is scheduled for fall of 2013.
